Google formally unveiled the initial iteration of its Android 13 operating system for programmers (developer preview). Even though Android 13 is only a development preview, its appearance and some of its new features are already apparent.
Dave Burke, Google's VP of Engineering for Android, described the new features in this developer preview of Android 13 in a post on his company blog.
The codename "Tiramisu" for the sweet dish (dessert) is also used for Android 13.
A themed icon feature, improved privacy features, a new language preference option, and several more features are among the new additions.
themes for icons
Google concentrated on redesigning the OS interface in Android 12 using a new design language called "Material You."
Users of Mataerial You can select a wallpaper, and the system will later decide automatically which color is dominant and suitable for display.
These hues are then used across the entire interface in Android 12 including notifications, lock screens, volume settings menus, widgets, and more.
Google is enhancing the user experience on Android 13 by including a new function called themed icons.
The system will automatically switch the program icon's previously unique form and color to one that matches the theme when the themed icon is activated.
For instance, the panel and menu colors will also shift to pink when a user selects a wallpaper with a prominent pink color like the image above.
However, the icon designs for some programs have not changed from the originals, such as the Google service applications, which feature a lot of yellow, green, and blue. Or the phone's menu, contacts, and messages in blue, or the YouTube app in red, among other things.
The user only needs to enable the "themed icon" feature in the "Wallpaper & style" settings if they want the program icon to match the wallpaper in color.
All program icons on the phone will be changed to match the color of the background once the functionality is turned on.
privateness when choosing photos
New privacy measures are included in the Android 13 developer preview version when sharing photographs and videos in apps.
This most recent operating system permits mobile phone applications to only be able to access photographs or videos that the user specifically chooses, not all of the photos in the user's gallery.
For instance, when a user wants to update a contact's profile picture.
For instance, when a user wants to update a contact's profile picture. Users can choose pictures from the phone gallery later on as usual. The difference is that "this app will have access to only the photographs you pick" is now written on the gallery pane (this app will only have access to the photos you select).
This means that the contacts app will only be able to "see" one photo from among all the photos in the phone's gallery if the user only chooses one photo when adding a contact's profile photo.
Google intends to add this privacy option to all smartphones running Android OS 11 and higher in addition to Android 13.
App language selection
New language options that Google has now added to Android 13 may make it simpler for multilingual users to utilize apps on Android phones.
On Android phones, users can only currently select one language for the complete operating system.
For instance, all menus, programs, and the system itself will be presented in Indonesian when the user selects Indonesian as the language.
Google claims that multilingual users truly prefer the option of applying other languages, such as English, Chinese, Hindi, Dutch, or Korean, to particular applications.
In any case, Google has released a new Application Programming Interface (API) that enables programs to be configured to use a different language when the user uses them than the default language.
